0According to the Collins English Dictionary, identity means: ‘State of being a specific person or thing: individuality or personality . . . ‘ Above are the quotes that we used in today's lesson. We will continue looking at the question and how to go about structuring a response next lesson in preparation for you to write your first Section B response. I am still waiting for many of you to turn in some Section A responses for marking. This needs to happen as soon as possible so that I can get feedback to you so that you can improve your performance.

You found out today why the second part of the G325 examination is so tough. Some real degree level social theory really separates the wheat from the chaff! I think that you coped very well today an hopefully can apply some of what you have learnt to the texts that we have seen already and will come to watch over the coming weeks. I have attached the presentation that was used today at the bottom of this entry so that you can download it and use it as part of your revision. We will see, when we look at the exam criteria, how important these theories are and how you should be using them in the examination. Next lesson we will look at a question and how we might go about answering it using the texts that we have seen so far and some modern examples that you will bring to the lesson.
I know that some of you will be looking to complete your evaluations over the coming week and Cat has even been in contact saying that you cannot find the evaluations questions. So, to make it easy for you I have the questions here...
Remember that you need to discuss the development of all of your products, not just the main task. There is a very good example of a high quality Evaluation here - it might give you some good ideas like conducting questionnaires to gauge audience response for instance.
Some good work today although all of you need to work on your general knowledge, especially about British culture such as Shakespeare. The real thing to consider from todays lesson is how a text is a product of the society that makes it. Through the choices that have been made in order to create the texts the concerns of the time are reflected in the text i.e. people are having a tough time at the moment so there are lots of texts reflecting this negative outlook like The Walking Dead, Revolution, Oblivion etc. Just as these reflect the concerns of now so the two historical texts above would reflect the society that made them. Now texts can also be read - through the encoding and decoding process - differently at different points on time; a modern audience may not see the dame things that the maker of a text intended 100 years after the fact.
You should all be working on your coursework still and getting blogs up to date. Remember that I will be doing a review this weekend so it is a really good opportunity to find out exactly where you are in terms of marks and targets.
Here is the presentation that I used in class - I do not know if the video will work within it - you can always leave a comment and let me know! You should be busy also writing answers to the 3 areas that we have studied for Question 1a i.e. Genre, Representations and Narrative. Remember that the question is "How has one of your productions used ___________ to create effect?". This question is worth 25 marks so should take around 25 minutes to write. You can submit the responses by email or print them out and hand them to me. I would like these in next week please - by Wednesday at the latest! JOC Productions have a cast! It has taken a while but I am sure that it will be worth it in the long run to work with professionals and trained actors rather than just a bunch of friends messing about. You need to focus now on the test shots of your time warp effect.
Prime Sight has been in script development for a while and the script is looking good. There are some great ideas and the whole thing should be a visual treat. You need to look into filters and effects that you can use to make your footage look more like the Black Mesa film that is your inspiration. You also need to do some test shots for your crash zoom and your fight scene - both vital elements of your film. Joe is making some good progress with his innovative new video game. Do not forget that you need to be doing the basic tasks such as storyboarding and scripting the adverts. Just because they are shorter than a film do not think that it can be done in any less detail. Well done all. You should be planning for some very busy days during half term and I hope that you make some progress actually committing some of your ideas to film. |
